Today we began our day going in the right direction – surprise! That’s because we were headed on a taffy and bakery run. I think if we are going for food maybe we can get there.
When we first woke up, it was snowing and 27 degrees – did I tell you it was cold? We thought, boy is this going to be something – us California girls in DC snow – so we start out and it’s snowing like a son of a gun. After we got to the taffy store, the sun came out. Pauline had fun in the candy aisle and we entertained the clerk by having to count the taffy.
We then headed to the Museum to meet Melissa. So now I will tell you, God has always been good to us and brought us another Quilt of Honor Angel – Melissa has stepped up and is helping us so much. She will be our contact for DC. Melissa, welcome to our QOH family. Do you know she drove us to Walter Reed and we didn’t even get lost and what a breeze when you don’t have to do u-turns or go down the wrong way on a one way street.
We met everyone at the Museum and were warmly received. This is going to be an event to remember. Our quilts are going to be so beautifully displayed. We need to get busy on our quilts, ladies. We will need 100 plus quilts. A great reception is being planned. Tell your family and friends what we will be doing – we will be making history. I will give you more specifics in the weeks to come.
We also got to meet a couple of contacts at Walter Reed to see exactly how we will be able to award quilts. We then left Walter Reed and went back to the Museum to take pictures. We said our goodbyes to Melissa and headed back to Alexandria to have dinner with Jeannie and Carl. So, we flew down the highway to pick up a chocolate raspberry mousse for dessert. We picked up Pauline’s niece and drove over to our second home. We had a meal that was so good – Jeannie should have her own restaurant. Then we had that dessert – oh mercy was it good. Pauline and I bought a snack for tonight – Mom and Dad, you’re going to be mad – Crème Brulee.
We had a great day and I am so proud of our Organization to be able to do this – to have our quilts hang in a place of honor and be awarded to so many deserving warriors and veterans.
In closing, I would like to dedicate this Blog to Betty Snyder, a big supporter of Quilts of Honor and a part of our family. She will be missed but not forgotten. Rest in peace Miss Betty.
God bless all and don’t forget our 49ers on Sunday,
Gail
